These shoes were made for walking...

...and I want to walk in colour :)
(especially while having in mind that tomorrow will be my last day of school...weird....)

So let's colour shoes!

I saw many many projects which included remodeling shoes, though I never really believed that it would work out. Best way to find out: Try it!
And I might say it worked out better than I ever thought it would.

You'll need:
  • shoes (best would be old ones or some inexpensive ones (in case it does not work out))
  • glue (I use UHU Bastelkleber. It does glue everything!!)
  • toothpick
  • scissors
  • fabric
Lapidary, there are three steps:

Cut. Glue. Cut.

In reality: Step one is easy. Step two as well...step three will need some time.

I cut pieces of fabric with a lot of excess. I started spreading out the glue and put the pieces of fabric on it.
Cut around the fabric so it fits the form. This sounds difficult but it's ok (You'll get practise. The second shoe took me half the time!) Use your toothpick to push the fabric under the edges of the shoe fabric and seal with glue.
You're done :)

What might be helpful:
I used small and pointed scissors which made it easier to cut close and accurate.
Don't use too much glue or it will leak through the fabric and make it look wonky.
I started at the front and finished at my heals by flipping the fabric ones (just as you would do it while seaming)

If you have any questions: Don't be afraid to ask :)

I'm off to do some chores...

Running {a race through life}

Life is a little bit tough right now with all the upcoming exams, travels and events. It sort of feels like you stand at the start of a big race, not knowing how long it will go and where to go at all. So I ran. Like literally (I went jogging). It didn't feel like running away but more like steadying my overflowing thoughts and get a grip on them.
I turned the volume of my iPod up (up up) and ran.

Along the way I could feel all the exhaustion flowing away and my thoughts were stopped by my music for once.
The last part, I stopped and walked slowly without music. It gave me time to go through different things in my head and to "braid" my thoughts.

I also had to think about this whole blogger thing. The thing that keeps most people away is the fact that you share "private" things. Which made me think: Are they so private at all?
I mean: Do you really know a person at all? Sometimes I get the feeling I don't even know myself, so how could anybody else claim that they would know me (Especially by getting the information that I went for a walk...)?!
I went further in my trail of thoughts and ended up, by picturing me while I walk.

Anyway. I think I got my "fight-mode" back again. And isn't life also about the tough parts!? Who wouldn't like a good competition anyway.
So back to life.

(However I still might change my room again. Just so it fits my "new me". And also make a "thinking-map" to keep track of my thoughts...)
Btw: I totally recommend those thinking-maps!! Just start with your main thought and spread out according to your emerging thoughts like a mind map!)

Photo Clutch

Since I'm a "picture-person" I love to display and do as much as possible with all those photos I take. Because a room wallpapered with photos doesn't sound so good (hold on...it actually doesn't sound so bad...) well anyway.
I came past this idea when I saw reused magazine pages transferred into "simple" envelopes and thought that it would be even cooler, having a connection to your "real" life and making it to something you could use more often.

Aaaaanyway. Here we go (I'm writing a serious-topic-post right now, so my head is sort of past out, looking for the right formulations. More on it later)

Photo Clutch Tutorial

You will need:
  • Scissors
  • Envelope (optional. You just could use the idea from my drawing)
  • thick paper
  • masking tape (optional. But it makes it look cute!)
  • needle
  • thread
  • button
  • toothpick
  • photos
  • self-adhesive transparent foil
First step: Transfer your envelope-outlines to your thick paper. Size optional (mine was 22x14 cm). You can either measure out a real envelope (after you "unfolded" it or do it by eye measure <-- the way I did it...).
Cut it out.
Lay out all your photos the way you like it. Remember that some of the photos need to be up side down since you'll fold some of the sides up side down.

Can you see the pink arrow. It points to my envelope shape covered in photos...
Next thing, I fixed all photos with some masking tape (No glue was used. However this is optional) I simply found it easier this way.
Turn around (Photo side down) and cut out again (all the stuff that sticks out).
Apply your foil. I cut out a large rectangle and simply turned down all the overlapping parts. Makes it more steady.

Now comes the hard part. Since your envelope is quite thick now, gluing might not work. I sewed instead.
First fold your envelope and punch holes in the right place (use a padding). Than sew it together. It's a bit tricky but you'll get through this part.

For applying your button you'll need to punch holes again. While sewing it on, put your toothpick under your button so it will stick out a bit. Also use a long thread so you can use the remaining thread to close your clutch.

Finished! :)

Tip: I folded my "lid-part" twice (picture below) so it sort of had this 3D thingy. First: It makes it cuter (well I feel this way) and second: more stuff will fit in. You could also make it 3D-like at all sides.

Have a wonderful Monday!

Btw: It was our first day in our last school week (crazy stuff I can say!) and we started our "Motto Woche" Stay tuned for my summary at the end of the week ;)

Btw 2nd: Does the weather make you as tired as it makes me? I hate it!

Btw 3rd: I thought a bit about why I like blogging so much (it can become addicting you know!?) and I think it ist because the little things get their attention too.

Friday photos {different}

My week in photos...but different this week :)

It's so hot outside, though the weather is supposed to change this evening. I sort of feel blah and still need to find my way out of this, so as a start I went through my photos.
I'm surprised every time that all those things actually happened this week . Somehow it gets stretched out in my mind or I simply forget things. This is another thing I love about photography. It helps you remember.

My week started with a little project done for a good friend of mine. It did not went the way it was supposed. Since I'm "Blah" it does not really matter...
To extend my cultural knowledge we had a music-improve-your-horizon-evening connected with a fun picnic before (only adults. Turned out they are not that different ;)....)
I got around to improve my "Affenalarm" skills on Monday (and also watched my first Indiana Jones movie!!) the youngest one was not scared at all, however I was constantly watching him instead of all those scary stuff. Turned out this fact was highly amusing...
I trip with my dad on Tuesday ♥
My last gym class ever! on Wednesday
An improvement in our snack-habits on Thursday
And feet on Friday
What also did happen this week:

They started blooming finally! YAY!
And I made a collection of brown. Turned out there was not really anything that was "brown" more like shades of orange, ocher, grey....
I hope you don't feel blah.
Happy Friday

Project Advice

I came up with this idea a couple of weeks ago. I also got pretty emotional while writing it. I don't see it as dramatic as I did but I thought I leave it as it is so it stays real.
So here we go...

I’ve been thinking a lot about being kind and helping others recently (It does not mean I don't think about this stuff normally!).

When I found out about the ‘Pass it forward’ project, I was thrilled. The idea to create cards with an invitation to do one good deed and pass them along. I loved the idea. However it is copyrighted. If I want to pass those cards (or something similar) I have to purchase a set of ten for 2,50$.
I understand that people want to be paid for their ideas. I respect that people want to protect their ideas.
Somehow, I still did not want to buy cards with which I wanted to pass joy, help and kindness. I thought of "A raisin in the sun" where Walter Lee's mum would say "So now it's life. Money is life. Once upon a time freedom used to be life". I know it's a bit dramatic, but this is my point of view. I'd respect any other.
So, since they were copyrighted and I did not want to buy them I needed to come up with my own idea.

Sometimes I feel that our modern days do not just bring benefits but the lost feeling of not being able to find something new; something that wasn't there before. I do appreciate all the benefits it brings as well - of course! Where would I be without inspiration?!

So, here I was, still with my thought about something new. Something were I would not break any copyright law. Something were I could still pass kindness, help and joy. And I also wanted to preserve something of what people had given. Not in a material way but something that was important for them, like advice.

I think advice is a kindness on its own. It's a thought someone formulates with the idea of love and protection.
I also think that advice from elders (or any other) is important and should be preserved.

So here is my project.

Nine notebooks. Lots and lots of empty pages. The first people I'll give them to will hopefully pass the along.

I don't know if it's new.
I don't know if someone has already started something like that.
I'm pretty sure someone did.
It's like with this question:

- "Do you believe that there are others, out there in universe"
- "Would be quite a waste if it would be just us in the great wide endlessness"
(It's from a movie. I just don't know which one)

I really hope they get passed on.
A quote. A photo. A moment worth remembering. Something you've learned.

My advice to start all three of them:

Let go and welcome new

I provided the possibility to take a photo of the written (scribbled, painted...) page and sent it to me. Every picture will be posted and listed on an extra page (see above: Project advice).
Maybe it will find its way to your home. If so, I hope you pass it along as well.

Just to keep it real...this is what my table looked after I was done with all the glue-work and cutting...
